This Mortal Coil

This is a multi-part work written by my late sister. Her title for this book was This Mortal Coil. Publishing here is an experiment to see how it is received. It is part of a two-volume series. Each volume is over 150,000 words. Each installment will be around 2500-3000 words, sometimes more, sometimes less. This is Part 1 of Chapter 1. More will follow. Part 1: In this part, Stan and Debbie are treated to a rough shuttle landing on Raznack. The pilot has an annoying way of expressing his political preferences.
Part 2: Disembarking from the shuttle, Stan and Debbie meet Black Nick and begin the trip from the spaceport to the Castle Royal. We learn about cloning on Raznack.
The (un)Welcoming committee makes its appearance. One down, 11 to go.
Debbie awakes to see Carlos' body on the ground and has a screaming panic attack, and must be sedated. We learn a bit more of her history and the scars on her arm. Carlos is hauled away in the helicopter. The royal escort finally appears.
Part 5: Finally arriving at the castle, where they are greeted by Lord Griffendahl, The Inquisitor. New complications are revealed concerning Nick's entourage, and some feathers are ruffled. A new intrigue involving the Inquisitor is hinted at.
Carlos' fiancée, Catherine, invades the scene at the royal dinner reception for Stan and Debbie, and attempts to kill Nick in a drug-fogged frenzy.
The party's over. Catherine will be going over. Nick makes arrangements while Debbie gets to know Griffendahl - and herself a little better.
In chapter 2, we learn more than we ever want to hear again about "going over" and how the Trebla cylinders work. This part of the story becomes VERY HARD to read, as I was reminded when reviewing it. It's uncensored and difficult. Please remember that I did not create this, I am merely presenting it. Good luck.
Griffendahl makes all the necessary preparations to clone Debbie, without permission. We learn a LOT about the cloning process. Nick works on his romance with Debbie. Plans are being made to improve the planet. This is a loooooong chapter, but very engaging.
Nick dreams of Debbie dying and massive cloning efforts behind his back. The rebels are getting ready to fall into a trap arranged by Nick's men.
Griffendahl actually has a name. Debbie is seduced as she is introduced to his birth and childhood story, which makes her past tortures seem microscopic by comparison. We learn he is part "native" as well. His scars will never heal.
Debbie is in love with Griffendahl. She desires to be cloned. Nick's relationship with Griffendahl is described in better detail, shedding more light on the Griffendahl personality.
Girffendahl explains to Nick how long he has been watching out for him, and why he is interested in him. Then he intervenes in the argument that ensues when Nick's father drops by for a visit. We learn a bit more about the power of the Royal Inquisitor.
Rebels are rounded up and some revenge is extracted via stun blaster for Catherine's suffering. Nick and Debbie make painful discoveries about each other. Incarcerated rebels get treated to the results of their efforts.
Griffendahl's love comes at the price of total loyalty and obedience. He's good at extracting both from humans. The incarcerated rebels unwillingly divulge their secret plans.
Mikhail reveals the newest plot involving Debbie, we meet the wyvern Vyrrim, one of Griffendahl’s parents. Debbie yields eggs for Raznack’s future. Debbie investigates fixing Vyrrim's wing and learns to speak a little wyvern. We begin to understand a bit more about Griffendahl's genealogy.
We learn something about why women are necessary for survival in spite of the seemingly always available reconstitution after going over. People are NOT immortal. A group of rebels is rounded up while attempting to instigate a power outage at the castle so they can kidnap Stan and Debbie.
HOW many Debbies? We get another flashback to Nick’s young years, discuss the launching of ‘Debbiewood.’ Wyvern reproduction and mating get a description. Carlos sings again as he emerges from the Trebla cylinder, spilling lots of beans. Magic pills do magic for Debbie.
